Idol judge Jennifer Lopez leaps into singles chart (Reuters)

NEW YORK (Billboard) – New "American Idol" judge Jennifer Lopez blasted back onto the Billboard Hot 100 on Thursday with her highest debut in more than eight years as "On the Floor" grabbed the No. 9 position.

It marks Lopez's first top 10 as a lead artist since the four-week No. 1 "All I Have," featuring LL Cool J, in 2003. That song also marked her previous highest debut, having arrived at No. 25 at the end of 2002.

Her Island Def Jam label synched its digital release with the premiere of its video on Thursday's "Idol" episode. The song, with Pitbull as a featured vocalist, precedes the April 19 release of Lopez's seventh album, "Love?"

"On the Floor" also marks Lopez's 10th Hot 100 top 10, a sum that includes four No. 1s. She last reached the top 10 as a featured artist on LL Cool J's "Control Myself" in 2006.

Divas dominated the Hot 100 headlines, as Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" spent a third week at No. 1, dating to its debut on top two weeks ago. With cumulative digital sales of 1.2 million downloads, it's the fifth-best-selling song this year.

At three weeks atop the Hot 100, "Born" ties Gaga's 2009 debut single "Just Dance" for the longest of her three chart reigns. ("Poker Face" ruled the chart for a week in 2009.)

Cee Lo Green's "F*** You (Forget You)" was No. 2 for a second week, Bruno Mars' "Grenade" held at No. 3, Pink's "F**kin' Perfect" rebounded two to No. 4, and Rihanna's "S&M" jumped two to No. 5.

Katy Perry's "Firework" slipped one to No. 6, but the pop singer also soared 20 to No. 8 with "E.T.," featuring Kanye West. In between, Enrique Iglesias' "Tonight (I'm Lovin' You)" jumped two to No. 7. Dr. Dre's "I Need a Doctor," featuring Eminem and Skylar Grey, fell six to No. 10.

Jennifer Lopez Debuts Music Video 'On the Floor' Feat. Pitbull

Jennifer Lopez and PitbullShe might still be 'Jenny From the Block,' but Jennifer Lopez has come a long way, baby.

Currently a high-profile judge in the television series 'American Idol,' Lopez will release a new album on April 19 entitled 'Love?' But, for her fans and followers, there need not be a question mark attached -- Lopez stormed the Billboard Hot 100 on Thursday with the album's first single, 'On the Floor,' landing her in the top 10.

It's a position she's been in before, sure, but it's been a full eight years since she's seen that kind of love -- and she's been engaged and/or married more than once since then.

In a move that demonstrates the kind of genius marketing and branding Lopez -- aka J. Lo -- has employed during her entire career, the digital release for 'On the Floor' (featuring Pitbull) was synced with its video premiere on 'American Idol' on Thursday. Watch the video after the jump.

The immediate success of 'On the Floor,' -- perhaps partially propelled by her 'American Idol' status -- marks a comeback of sorts for Lopez, who suffered two commercial failures with her previous two albums, following a string of unstoppable successes during the early 2000's.

In 2009, many saw an omen in circumstance when she fell down and busted her highly-insured behind at the American Music Awards. Lopez has since dusted off and, indeed, appears to have put all that behind her, so to speak. These days, she's crushing it.

Jennifer Lopez Asks Fans to Finish Her New Video

Her new dance jam, 'On the Floor,' is already a Top 5 hit on iTunes, and No. 1 in several European countries and Australia. Next, Jennifer Lopez promises to premiere the track's video on 'American Idol' this Thursday, March 3.

But she says she isn't quite finished with it yet!

Hyping J.Lo's musical comeback, the official 'Idol' website asks fans to pick the best ending for the slick 'On the Floor' video, directed by Taj Stansberry.

The three options are each around 15-20 seconds long, and in truth, are not really all that different. But if you're into gravity-defying nightclub dancers, or gazing at Lopez in droopy harem pants (that is, when she isn't working a super-spangled, super-sexy catsuit), you'll find a clip that earns your vote.

On Thursday, Lopez spoke to Ryan Seacrest's radio audience, according to MTV News, about recruiting the public's involvement in 'On the Floor' once again (her team cast a wide net in January while auditioning talent for the shoot).

"You get to do what I do," she explained.

The track is the lead single from Lopez's upcoming release, 'Love?' -- the same studio album that languished after a shaky label switch a year ago, but is now scheduled for a March 29 release. In early 2010, it was rumored that Sony's Epic label ended their decade-long relationship with J.Lo after watching her first single off 'Love?' -- the stilletto-shoe-themed dud 'Louboutins' -- fall flat; Epic chose to shelve the album. Island Def Jam soon picked it up and reportedly commissioned new material, and Lopez seems thrilled to see the revamped project released at last.

"I really feel like, emotionally, I connected to it," she told MTV about her passion for the 'On the Floor' video, "because of how much I love to dance and how much that's always been such a big part of who I am since I started....Since I was a little girl, I just totally connected with the idea of getting out there."

While she gets out the vote, she's also getting over her emotional moment on 'Idol' earlier in the week, when she cried on the judging panel about singer Chris Medina's elimination from the competition.

Jennifer Lopez Latest Celeb To Enlist Fan Feedback On The Net

Jennifer Lopez is set to drop her dance-tastic video for "On the Floor" in less than a week, and she's letting her fans choose how the Taj Stansberry-directed clip ends. On Thursday, Lopez visited Ryan Seacrest's morning radio show to announce that she'd be giving her fans the option to pick between two 15-to-20-second alternate endings, with the final cut airing during the March 3 "American Idol" broadcast at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

"You get to do what I do," J. Lo said during "On-Air With Ryan Seacrest." "Like, I go in there with my videos and I start editing and picking all the shots I like and the things that I like and what I feel the best kind of feeling for the record is. You guys get to do that. We picked two different ones and we weren't sure."

Lopez joins a list of stars, who have also maintained an interactive relationship with fans in order to get feedback on everything from song selection to tour set lists and promotional appearances.

Katy Perry's "E.T." Single
Back in December, Katy took to Twitter to ask fans what they thought should be the next single off her smash Teenage Dream. Shortly after, the pop star thanked fans for their suggestions, admitting that she agreed with the majority of them. Fast-forward two months as Katy selected the futuristic tune "E.T." as to be the fourth release off her sophomore effort, and adding Kanye West into the mix.

Bon Jovi's Concert Set List
When Bon Jovi teamed up with YouTube for a special concert show last year, the rockers were set on giving fans complete control. Lead singer Jon Bon Jovi recorded a video message, which was appropriately uploaded onto the site, asking fans to send in their song suggestions via text or video entry. And as expected, the group performed signature hits, including "Livin' on a Prayer" and "It's My Life" during the concert event.

Janet Jackson's Tour Dates
Scheduling a tour can be difficult for busy artists, especially when there are so many cities to cover. However, that's not the case with Janet Jackson's upcoming world tour, for which she allowed fans vote on the cities where they'd most like to see her perform. The pop icon eventually selected a slew of dates based on fan submissions and they'll get to hear her perform songs from her greatest-hits album, Number Ones.

Rolling Stone Cover
It's not only stars who request fan feedback: Rolling Stone magazine is letting fans choose 1 of 16 unsigned bands to grace their coveted front cover, they announced last week. Through a tournament-style competition, fans will submit votes until the last two bands are standing. From there, the finalists will compete in an onstage battle of the bands that will determine who gets the cover and a recording contract from Atlantic Records.

Betty White's 'SNL' Facebook Campaign
As Betty White's popularity skyrocketed in recent years, so did the demand for her onscreen appearances, including admirers who wanted her to score a gig on "Saturday Night Live." After an overwhelming Facebook campaign to have the then-88-year-old actress host the late-night sketch comedy show, White finally took the "SNL" stage and gave viewers what they wanted. With the help of White, "SNL" alums like Tina Fey and Maya Rudolph, and musical guest Jay-Z, the show earned its best numbers in more than 18 months.

Jennifer Lopez To Debut 'On The Floor' Video On 'American Idol'

As the 10th season of "American Idol" continues, Jennifer Lopez is using her new seat at the judges' table as a platform to help launch her musical comeback.

It was announced on Wednesday (February 23) that the triple-threat entertainer will premiere the video for her single "On the Floor" during the Thursday, March 3 "Idol" broadcast at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

The RedOne-produced dance track, which features Pitbull, was released on iTunes worldwide on Monday and has already had an impressive impact. According to a press release, less than 24 hours after its release, "On The Floor" has surged to #3 on the U.S. iTunes digital chart and is at #1 on the chart in Spain, France, Sweden, Australia, Finland, Greece, Austria and Belgium.

MTV News recently visited Lopez on the set of her Taj Stansberry-directed clip, where the pop star dished a few details about the video.

"I play one character where she kind of runs this party, acts like she's kind of over it, but at the same time loves it and loves this kind of underground kind of party dance culture," she explained. "So I got to be wild and crazy, and at the same time I got to be sexy and sweet too."

"On the Floor" is the lead single from J.Lo's upcoming album, Love? The "Idol" judge also spoke about her connection to the song and admitted she made RedOne replay the club jam several times after her first listen.

"Because I really feel like, emotionally, I connected to it, but also because of how much I love to dance and how much that's always been such a big part of who I am since I started," the songstress explained of why she fell for the song. "Since I was a little girl, I just totally connected with the idea of getting out there."

Jennifer Lopez Draws On 'Personal Experience' For 'American Idol'

For those who've been paying close attention to new "American Idol"judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler, from all appearances — including an ever-expanding catalog of zany Tyler quotes — the two new kids on the block seem to be having a great time.

When MTV News caught up with Lopez and husband Marc Anthony during our live-stream broadcast of the Grammy red carpet Sunday night (February 13), we asked the "Idol" newbie — who on several occasions has expressed sadness in having to tell contestants "no" — if she's enjoying the critical aspect of the job.

"I love it," Lopez said. "Honestly, with all the experience I've had over the years, it's like, what do you do with it? Steven, he's been on the scene for 40 years touring. You have so much information, you have so much experience and so many little tidbits you don't even realize you have in your mind," she explained of drawing on personal experience to help provide constructive criticism for the "Idol" contestants. "You see someone perform, and you're in the position to go, 'Hey, you know what? Why don't you think about this? You know what I see? I see this.' "

Lopez's hubby chimed in that his wife was primed for the coveted position. "She's a natural," he said. "She's been telling me what to do for seven years; now it's somebody else's turn," he joked.

"It's a lot of fun," Lopez added. "Everything's awesome. We're just having a great time with life," she said, speaking of her gig on "Idol," her family and her new music.
