Jennifer Lopez Draws On 'Personal Experience' For 'American Idol'

For those who've been paying close attention to new "American Idol"judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler, from all appearances — including an ever-expanding catalog of zany Tyler quotes — the two new kids on the block seem to be having a great time.

When MTV News caught up with Lopez and husband Marc Anthony during our live-stream broadcast of the Grammy red carpet Sunday night (February 13), we asked the "Idol" newbie — who on several occasions has expressed sadness in having to tell contestants "no" — if she's enjoying the critical aspect of the job.

"I love it," Lopez said. "Honestly, with all the experience I've had over the years, it's like, what do you do with it? Steven, he's been on the scene for 40 years touring. You have so much information, you have so much experience and so many little tidbits you don't even realize you have in your mind," she explained of drawing on personal experience to help provide constructive criticism for the "Idol" contestants. "You see someone perform, and you're in the position to go, 'Hey, you know what? Why don't you think about this? You know what I see? I see this.' "

Lopez's hubby chimed in that his wife was primed for the coveted position. "She's a natural," he said. "She's been telling me what to do for seven years; now it's somebody else's turn," he joked.

"It's a lot of fun," Lopez added. "Everything's awesome. We're just having a great time with life," she said, speaking of her gig on "Idol," her family and her new music.
