Brad Paisley didn't sing for his supper Monday night at La Fete du Cinema, a fundraiser for the Nashville Film Festival, he painted for it!

The multi-talented musician/singer/songwriter and budding visual artist has had no formal training – "unless you count watching [PBS's] Bob Ross," he says – but his original piece of art earned $5,500 during the night's live auction.

Paisley tells PEOPLE he did the background of the oil painting at home, and completed it during the cocktail hour at The Standard at the Smith House, the historic building that was also the site of Paisley's video for Whiskey Lullaby.

Paisley, wife Kimberly Williams-Paisley and their good friends Tracie and Scott Hamilton were celebrity co-hosts of the event, which also drew Rascal Flatts members Joe Don Rooney and Jay DeMarcus and their wives Tiffany and Allison; The Band Perry; Bryan and Erika White; and Craig and Karen Morgan.

Bringing some star power to the kitchen was Chef Richard Blais, owner of Flip Burger in Atlanta, host of the Science Network's Blais Off, and a current finalist on Bravo's Top Chef All Stars.

Tapping into the James Bond theme of the evening – which started with Vesper Martinis, 007's favorite cocktail – Blais created a four-course menu of oysters with vodka and pearls; acorn squash soup with Iberian ham and stone crab; Japanese beef with artichoke, foie gras and black truffle. Red velvet tartare with cream cheese ice cream and tarragon coulis and black chocolate macaroons was for dessert.
