Gondry to head Cannes shorts jury

23 February 2011 Last updated at 08:48 GMT Michel Gondry Gondry won an Oscar for co-writing 2004's Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind The Green Hornet director Michel Gondry is to head the jury of the Cannes film festival's short film competition.

The Frenchman earned critical acclaim for his 2004 film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, which won him a best screenplay Oscar.

Martin Scorsese and John Boorman are among the other directors who have presided over the jury in the past.

US actor Robert De Niro heads the main jury at this year's festival, which runs from 11 to 22 May.

Gondry's first feature film, Human Nature, screened out of competition in Cannes in 2001.

He went on to make 2006 film The Science of Sleep and the Jack Black comedy Be Kind Rewind in 2008.

The 47-year-old returned to Cannes in 2008 as director of a segment of the three-part film Tokyo!

The following year his documentary The Thorn in the Heart was screened out of competition at the event.
