Russell Brand Considered Quick Proposal

RUSSELL BRAND CONSIDERED QUICK PROPOSAL
Russell Brand almost proposed to Katy Perry on their first date.

Russell Brand and Katy Perry
The British funnyman was instantly smitten with the 26-year-old singer - who he married in October 2010 - when they first went out together in September 2009 and said his feelings for her were like a "hit of acid" in the way they distorted his perception.

Russell - who has a history of drink and drug addiction - said: "I nearly asked her to marry me on our first date. It was like a hit of acid, a wave of confusion, emerging from under the water, a moment of 'Oh bloody hell,' different perception for a moment. And then I thought, ?I'll give it space and see what happens.'"

Russell, 35, admitted he is "fascinated" by his wife and loves her intellect, innocence and the contradictions within her personality.

He told America's Elle magazine: "It's the most normal relationship I've ever had with anybody. She's very spirited, bighearted, innocent, but very, very smart."

"Someone told me that enlightenment is contingent upon being able to hold opposing views simultaneously. I'm actually attracted to that magnetism and sort of repulsion. She's endlessly fascinating."

"I was at a point in my life where I was ready to behave. I look at it the way I look at most things, One day at a time. I will say it's very, very rewarding and I love her."

LiLo Rejects Plea Deal

LILO REJECTS PLEA DEAL
Lindsay Lohan has rejected a plea deal in her felony grand theft case.

The "Mean Girls" actress must now face trial after turning down the chance to plead guilty or no-contest in exchange for a reduced sentence in the case, which has seen the 24-year-old star charged over the alleged theft of a $2,500 necklace from an upmarket Californian boutique, sources told gossip website TMZ.

Lindsay - who is currently on probation stemming from a 2007 driving under the influence conviction - will next appear in court for a preliminary hearing on April 22, with Judge Stephanie Sautner, who is described as "tough but fair," presiding over proceedings.

Earlier this week, Lindsay's mother Dina Lohan said her daughter - who has always maintained she was loaned the necklace in exchange for publicity - was seriously considering pleading no-contest and accepting the deal as she wanted to "get it over with."

Explaining why the actress was considering pleading no-contest, Dina said: "Obviously she's not pleading guilty. My children don't steal things. But the system is so strange out in Los Angeles."

"We're considering a couple of options and just want to get this over with in the shortest amount of time."

"Lindsay is up for a couple of film roles, and we want this behind us the quickest way possible. We're speaking with the attorneys and we'll make that decision after we talk."

Why Charlie Sheen Keeps Winning and Lindsay Lohan Keeps Losing

Mar 18th 2011 01:00PM
At first glance the similarities between Lindsay Lohan and Charlie Sheen seem to trump their differences. Both were wildly successful in their own rights -- she in teen flicks, he in sitcoms. Both have addiction and relationship dramas, both have daddy issues and both screw up. A lot.

But while Sheen seems to be encased in kryptonic armor protecting him and his bank account from all of his misdeeds, Lohan can't even keep a movie gig, and no one wants to pay her to do much of anything, even sell tights.

What gives? Is it a male/female thing? The age difference? I don't think so. Sheen has simply made better personal branding choices. He gives America the product they want.
Bret Easton Ellis wrote in Newsweek this week that Sheen simply gets modern celebrity. A modern celebrity is one that doesn't give a crap about what the public thinks about them. They are going to do it their way, whether you like it or not. The irony is that you do like it and you will end up paying good money for more of it. Using that construction, Lohan's problem is that she cares much too much. She desperately wants everyone to like her. She proves that she becomes offended when anyone, say the cast of 'Glee,' pokes fun at her expense.

How would Sheen respond in such a situation? We imagine if New Directions started in on the actor he would be the first one to come on the show to sing his latest anthem, 'Duh, Winning, in A Minor,' and he would demand $1 million to do it. Ryan Murphy wouldn't know why he was doing it, but he'd be signing that check.

Sheen has created a brand out of screwing up. He embraces what one of my favorite business coaches, Suzanne Evans, says: "Make your mess your message," when it comes to developing your personal brand. Sheen has become the king of this idiom. In fact his messy path has become his hero's journey.

Lohan hasn't been able to commit to a message, whether messy or otherwise in the past five years. She was almost in a lesbian relationship with DJ Sam Ronson, but never fully committed to the homosexual lifestyle. She posed nude for New York magazine, but has never committed to being a sex kitten. Her multiple rehabs haven't worked, yet she has never fully embraced her bad girl persona either. She never seemed to enjoy her benders very much. Not like Sheen.

Lohan is a commodity without a brand message and that is her problem. It's also why the American public doesn't know what to make of her. We know what Charlie Sheen is. He's crazy like a fox, and he has been bringing that crazy to everything he has done in the past three weeks. Each new Sheen's Korner is crazier than the last. His live show promises to be one of the craziest nights of one-man performance since Gallagher stopped smashing watermelons.

Because Lohan hasn't embraced any single brand message, she has become unlikable. Seriously unlikeable. In 2004, Lohan had a brand awareness of only 20 percent. Her positive Q score (a score advertisers and brands use to determine how well-liked a celebrity asset is) was a 19, and her negative was a 20. By last year 84 percent of those polled were familiar with Lohan. Her positive rating reached a low of 9, and her negative rating hovered at 52. More than five times more people despised Lohan than liked her.

Meanwhile, Charlie Sheen has never been more adored. They're both messy, but Charlie's decision to embrace his mess will prove to be the best business decision he has ever made. We never thought we'd say it, but Lindsay could learn something from the warlock.Follow Jo on Twitter

Lisa Lampanelli Gives Credit to The Situation at Donald Trump's Roast

Things didn't go too well for Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino at Comedy Central's roast of Donald Trump, but he took it in stride, according to roast regular Lisa Lampanelli.

"I feel really bad for The Situation,' Lisa tells me, "because he is to comedy what I am to women's gymnastics."

"I have a lot of respect for him because he said, 'Hey, that was great,' after being booed off the stage," she adds.

Conan O'Brien Movie Kills at SXSW [Review]

conan obrien movieConan O'Brien is the star of a documentary that premiered on the fittingly Irish day of St. Patrick's at South by Southwest on Thursday, and Moviefone was there to offer an early take on the film.

Directed by Rodman Flender (who helmed 'Leprechaun 2'), 'Conan O'Brien Can't Stop' is a primarily verite work that presents a candid behind-the-scenes look into the post-NBC months of the understandably angry personality.

Many will, if they haven't already, refer to 'Conan' as this year's 'Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work,' and there are plenty of similarities. We get to see another comedian on the road, talking about the disappointments of his career and exposing a side and depth of character we haven't seen from him up to now. The best thing, story-wise, in 'Conan' is how he goes from being so needy of notability and recognition at first, such as in that opening scene, to expressing great annoyance with fans who demand too much of him.

In a way, it's like the anti-'Justin Bieber: Never Say Never.'

Then again, some of 'Conan' almost seems unrealistically ingenuous, as if he's either playing up his cantankerous behavior and biting insults for the sake of Flender's camera or he's simply just kidding around regardless of being filmed. There are only a few moments in which it truly comes across that he's being mean-spirited and his words are met with discomfort rather than laughs (on screen, that is; all these bits are met with laughs from the viewer).

James Franco Takes Dig at Oscar Writer on Twitter

james franco oscarsIt's no secret that James Franco's hosting job wasn't really up to par. Critics slammed his barely there attitude and general awkwardness during the telecast. But when Oscar joke writer Bruce Vilanch opened up to New York magazine's Vulture blog about Franco's flop, the actor took to Twitter to return a dig at Vilanch.

"He has so many balls in the air, he didn't get to town till Thursday before the show on Sunday," Vilanch told Vulture about Franco's busy schedule. "I don't think he realized how big a deal it is to do it until he was actually confronted with it. I think he thought he would kind of ... I don't know what he thought."

Vilanch, along with pretty much everyone else watching the show, thought it was all some kind of act.

Franco apparently didn't take Vilanch's comments too well, and he tweeted a graffiti-covered picture of himself with Vilanch backstage at the Oscars.

"James f**ked up the Oscars. Trust me, I know comedy," Franco scribbled on the photo, in dialogue bubbles coming from Vilanch's mouth. "I mean, come on, I write for Bette Midler!"

Franco has since deleted the tweet and photo, but Vulture was lucky enough to grab it before he took it down.

John Travolta Angers Qantas Employees With In-Flight Video Appearance

John Travolta Angers Qantas Employees With In-Flight Video AppearanceLooks like someone was taking his role in 'Broken Arrow' a bit too seriously.

Employees at Australia's national airline, Qantas, are more than a bit miffed after actor John Travolta showed up on-screen in full pilot regalia to introduce their most recent in-flight safety video.

Travolta, who is a certified private pilot, tells passengers, "This is your captain speaking -- well, maybe not today," which Qantas employees have panned as "tacky" and "corny," in addition to being insistent about having a "real" pilot make the announcement.

Check out John Travolta's video for Qantas.
